National Cherry Blossom Festival!

Yesterday, Tianna, Dan and I all went to the National Cherry Blossom festival in DC. I had never been to the festival before, so I knew I would have to go. It's part of being a local, c'mon! Needless to say, the weather was lovely, the trees were in full bloom, and everything was so pink and pastel gorgeous.

The streets of DC were bursting with blossoms from thousands of flowering cherry trees, a gift to the US from Japan a hundred or so years ago. It was definitely something I was glad I got the chance to see, a beautiful symbol of friendship across culture barriers.

I didn't get many photos as us as a group, as the sun was extremely bright, but we managed to pull a few silly faces for the camera.

After we walked around the mall for a while, we came across some souvenir tents. I made sure to pick up a magnet for our fridge (I'm a collector now, it's crazy) and a few vintage-looking postcards!

Tianna really wanted to go to Georgetown Cupcakes, which is kind of a tradition for me in DC. This time the line was nonexistent! I had heard before that they had made a special cupcake just for the festival, so I made sure to snag one of those. Overall, the cupcake was satisfactory, but I'm just not a fan of Georgetown's cream cheese frosting.

Since we were in G-Town anyway, we decided to stop for dinner at this little american bar, Clydes. The inside was kind of a fancy "saloon" style, decked out in equestrian and aviation memorabilia.

I got the Roasted Turkey sandwich, a BLT with roasted turkey, sweet mayo and avocado. It was hands down the best sandwich I'd had in a long time.

Then we stopped at Dean & DeLuca, a little market that was even a step up from Whole Foods. They had such pretty chocolates and candies (some costing upwards of $20 each!) and basically every foodie's dream selection. I wanted to buy EVERYTHING.

The pastries were soooo beautiful!

After drooling over the beautiful food, we walked across the bridge to Rosslyn, hopped on the metro, and headed home, as worn out as could be. It was such a good day!

What have you been up to lately?
