Adventures in Baltimore!

June 04, 2014

Yesterday, Sabrina and I headed to Baltimore for the day. Neither of us had ever been there for more than a few hours at a time, so it was nice to be able to have the city at our fingertips. Though we didn't partake in any of the larger attractions like the Aquarium or any harbor tours, we had a nice time walking around and getting a feel for the city.

One of our first destinations was a short walk around the harbor, we stopped to get a smoothie, enjoy the little shops and do some people watching.

I was super stoked to see they had a whole entire section in the shopping center dedicated to Old Bay seasoning. It brought me right back to the summers of my childhood, when my close friends and family would order a buschel of hardshell crabs and spend the afternoon talking and laughing and eating all the crab we could handle. Memories!

The place I looked most forward to visiting was the Edgar Allan Poe gravesite and memorial. Poe has always one of my favorite authors, and I love his poems especially. It was nice to be able to pay my respects to one of the greatest american literary figures.

Our hotel overlooked the Baltimore Orioles stadium, so before heading to dinner we decided to have a peek around. I'd never been to a major league baseball stadium before, so that was also a great experience. It felt like we were on the set of a movie! After visiting the stadium, we picked what where we wanted to eat, and passed some really cute houses on the way!

Blue Agave Restaraunte was our pick for dinner, and we picked well! When we walked in, they were in the middle of happy hour, which was a treat! We started off with their chips and salsa, and Sabrina ordered the house margarita.

For dinner, we both had tacos, and I had an elote. This was my favorite part of the meal! Elote is a grilled ear of corn, slathered in lime cream sauce, and topped with queso fresco and a hint of chilli powder. It was so tasty that I think I'll be attempting to make it at home!

Have you ever been to Baltimore?
What is your home baseball team? (Mine's the Nationals!)
Have you ever tried elote?

  1. I was born in Baltimore, and grew up right over the Pennsylvania border, so Baltimore has been a huge part of my life. I love it there! If you're a fan of books and happen to be in Baltimore on a weekend, you should check out The Book Thing (http://www.bookthing.org/) - it's like a mix between a bookstore& a library, except all the books are free and you can take as many as you want. It is beyond amazing.

Also, Joe Squared pizza! And since you're also a Poe fan, the Annabel Lee Tavern, it's a Poe themed restaurant. I haven't been there yet, but I've been wanting to.

I've never had elote, but it sounds delicious!

  2. So that's where Poe is buried huh?! I had no idea, shame on me. One of the greatest American authors indeed :)

  3. I had no idea you were so close to Baltimore! It feels like no bloggers are anywhere near me. I'm like 20-25 minutes outside of Baltimore. In fact, I met my now husband at Power Plant Live almost 10 years ago! Obviously, Baltimore has quite a large part of my heart...even if it is like the murder capital of the world or something. Meh, whatever. Those tacos look so delicious.

  10. This trip sounds amazing! I'm always a huge advocate of the best way to get to know a city, is to get lost in it! I've never been to Baltimore but it definitely looks like there's some hidden treasures there :)
