First Impressions - Benefit They're Real Push Up Liner - Review

I'd been wanting to try Benefit's They're Real Push Up Liner since it came out. I'd done my research, and decided that I wanted to give it a go, even though there were totally mixed reviews. My two favorite beauty vloggers hated it, but I still had a glimmer of hope. I liked the way the swatch looked when I played with it at Sephora, and the associate sold me on the method of applying it. Since I'm such a fan of gel liners, and the ones in pots usually dry up on me, I thought this product might be a good fit for my needs.

The rubber tip is one of the major selling points to this product, as it claims to help in smooth application and helping to get the liner all the way down to the lash line. I was a little afraid at first, as it seems a little too flimsy, but it was easy to get used to.

There were also some instructions included, which were helpful. I learned that it's important to apply in a fluid motion, instead of attempting to use the applicator like a brush or liner pencil.

This is the result of my first ever use of the product. Not too bad, right? It's not perfect, but I'm sure with practice I'll have it down in no time. It's fairly smooth, but requires a steady hand like all liner. Maybe it's not a miracle product, but I'm happy with the result it delivers. What do you think?

Overall, I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

What is your favorite eyeliner?
Do you think you'd try this product?

  1. I have been on the fence with this one as well. I think I am just going to have to suck it up and buy it!

  2. I personally think this product is way too overhyped and the price is too high for a gel liner. I see that its a nice idea to put in a stick instead of a pot but I personally don't see it as a new breakthrough in liner technology ^^ Judging from all the pictures I've seen its also not 100% opaque which just bothers me personally. I prefer liquid eyeliner because the application looks more smooth than most gel liners :) My favorite liner is from Zoeva, it has the perfect stick form and stays forever and ever. I hope however, you will make it work for you with a little practice! :)

    1. I totally see what you mean. It was overly hyped for sure. It's definitely not a life-changing product, but I did like the ease of application. Easier for me than liquid liner, and less messy than the gel pots. I'll have to check out the Zoeva liner! :)

  3. Hmm I think you did a good job applying it but it's not very dark at all. I need my liners to be much darker than that!

  4. i've heard a lot about this liner! seems like it does get the job done and you definitely did a great job applying. it's crazy how hard it is to get that perfect line! i've also heard a lot of good things about the kat von d tattoo liner. random, but i still want to try it!

  5. I've never tried this but it sounds great for getting a nice line, I can't tell you how many times I've messed up my eyeliner and had to wash it off and start over. My absolute favorite eyeliner is the kat von D tattoo liner, it's amazing and stays on all day without smudging or fading. I'd be interested to see how this compares!

  6. I actually find it much easier to apply this with short 'stabbing' motions along the lash line... it's great for getting a neat flick, but it smudges SO much on me that I've had to give up on it. Bitterly disappointed :(
