DIY // Anthropologie Inspired Key Holder

Ahh, anthropologie. So cute, but so freakin' outrageously expensive. Sometimes I wander around Anthropologie or Free People just to be there, taking in all the brightly colored upholstered chairs that cost more than my rent, $17 dinner plates emblazoned with woodland animals, and $49 lace tank tops that look like they belong on a woman that sells oranges at a farmers market and smells faintly of patchouli. Thankfully, there are ways to get the "Anthro look" without spending "Anthro money." One of my favorite places to shop for Anthro dupes is World Market, and of course, my local craft store.

Since I'm such a dunce and spend nearly an hour every day looking for my keys, I decided it was high time I find a permanent place for them. Since I am the type to stalk the Anthropologies and Free Peoples of the world, of course a standard wall hook wouldn't be enough for me, I wanted to make it decor.

And thus this key holder above was born.

To create this fun little key hanger, you will need:
  • 1 wooden plaque
  • As many wall hooks as you'd like (I got mine at World Market for less than $2 each!)
  • Paint in your choice of color
  • Small nails
  • A hammer
  • Glossy or matte sealant spray (optional)
Putting this together is super simple! Just paint your plaque in whatever color you desire - I picked white with a metallic gold border, but the possibilities are endless!

Then, allow the paint to dry. Once you're happy with the way your plaque looks, you can add a coat of sealeant spray to give it some extra protection, and to give it a glossy or matte finish (plain painted wood often looks dull.) Allow that to dry as well.

From there, all you need to do is line up your hooks where you want them, and nail them in! This was a tiny bit tricky because the knobs on the hook were ceramic (be gentle!) but it worked out really well in the end. Once your hooks are secure, you're ready to hang it up! I used command strips, but depending on the size you make, you may need a more heavy-duty method of hanging.

That's it for today! Bonus points if you know what sitcom one of these photos makes a reference to ;)

If you make something like to this, be sure to link me photos in the comments!
I'd love to see what you make!
