15 Things I Learned in 2015

2015 was a great year. I transferred to a new University, met a ton of great people, travelled, I worked a ton, literally and figuratively, but most importantly, I learned. Here are some of those lessons I gleaned from the past 365 days.

1. Comparing yourself to someone is the quickest way to make yourself unhappy.
2. Be your best, not someone else's idea of the best.
3. Cooking your own meals is the only way to guarantee that you're eating well.
4. Invest your money into experiences rather than things.
5. Most of the time, things are on clearance for a reason. Think twice before you impulse buy.
6. Seek out classic movies and books. They're often lessons themselves.
7. Stop apologizing for things you have no control over.
8. If you want the chocolate, eat the chocolate.
9. Buy higher quality items, rather than a larger quantity of cheap ones.
10. Be sure you can fit family time into your busy schedule.
11. Rather than regretting something, turn it into a funny story.
12. Avoiding something just leads to an awkward moment.
13. Clearing your clutter can also clear your mind.
14. Giving compliments are a great mood booster for everyone.
15. It's okay, and important, to take time to do nothing.

What did you learn this year?

  1. I have bagged a few bargains but definitely agree I can buy so much rubbish when things are on sale x

  2. This is such a great post! All the things you learned are very important and ring very true for me as well. I really like the kind of mindfulness/personal growth aspects of your blog! I learned a lot in 2015 but I think one of the biggest things was to focus on what would make my life better, rather than what would look good to other people.

  3. "Comparing yourself to someone is the quickest way to make yourself unhappy." This is also one of the things I learnt in 2015. I guess somehow people already know that there is no need to compare ourselves to others since we all walk different paths in life. But being able to actually do it really does take time and effort. It's so easy to feel weaker than others especially when you're surrounded by people who you think are "more successful" than you and it's true, it's also the easiest way to make yourself unhappy. So, in 2016, one of my goals is to work on and to improve myself, not to be better than others, but to be my best self :) Love your post and Happy New Year!

  4. #11 is something I definitely need to learn!

    Jemima x

  5. This is a great and inspirational list! I definitely need to work on having time to do nothing. I always try to squeeze in as many things as possible and end up getting overwhelmed and not actually completing anything I wanted to do.
