10 Reasons You Need A Blogging BFF

It's a saying as old as time, every Blair needs her Serena, and every Carrie needs her Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda. Just like every blogger needs her blogging BFF.

I first started reaching out to bloggers I admired all the way back in 2012 when I emailed back and forth with Ayden of Little Blog of Horrors. We sent each other sweet little pen pal packages, and have remained Facebook friends ever since. Not long after that I met Hayley from Water Painted Dreams, also from Scotland. It's been such a treat to be able to keep up with such lovely people's lives from halfway across the world, and it's nice to know there's someone who may want to grab coffee with me if ever I happen to hop across the pond to Europe.

A little closer to home, I met Caelan, who hails from Hawaii but moved to NYC a few years ago.  She and I have plans to take both DC and Brooklyn by storm someday soon. Through Caelan I met Sophie of Nana Wintour, who shares my love of Miranda Sings and gummy candies. I hope to visit New Zealand to meet her, as soon as I get my passport renewed and save up for that bear of a plane ticket!

As for having met in real life, just this week I had a girl's day with Kate of Lucky Bandit. After texting pretty much every day for almost a year, we decided to take the plunge and meet each other for real. Going in, it felt kind of like a blind date, but once we officially met it was like we were old pals! You can check out a recap of our day on Kate's blog here.

You see, blogging is this awesome community with thousands of people from all over the world, but sometimes this crowded room can feel a bit lonely. That's why blogging friends are such an invaluable resource. Someone you can text when you're feeling self-conscious about that personal post, someone that can brainstorm with you, and someone that will click your affiliate link no matter what. (This one's a joke, but it is a perk, I can't deny that.)

If my personal experience isn't enough to sell you on bloggy friends, here are 10 more reasons:

1. They won't judge you for needing to get the perfect photo.
Non-blogging friends don't always get it. Sometimes I feel rushed when I need to take that 5th or 20th photo of my shoes or my salad or my coffee cup. Bloggers understand. Quality photos matter, and they know why you're being a perfectionist.

2. They're supportive.
Sure, from the blogging world or not, friends are supposed to be supportive, but blog friends will share your post, or give you feedback, or tell you that outfit looks killer without even needing to be asked. They just know!

3. They're impartial.
Blogger friends are the perfect people to talk to about things going on in your real life, because more often than not, they don't hang out in the exact same circles as you. With blogging friends there's (hopefully) less of a chance for drama. Though they're not your personal therapist, they're a good shoulder to lean on when you need advice, even if it's about a life decision rather than a way to get more page views.

4. They'll help you take outfit photos.
Need I say more?

5. They understand blogger lingo.
I can't tell you how many times I've talked to non-bloggers about blogging, and they just gave me the slow blink. Being able to talk to someone about SEO and engagement, and having them actually add to the conversation is rare and extremely valuable.

6. They're in on the gossip.
Like you, they read blogs too, and chances are, they may also read forums. Though I don't contribute, I do keep up with sites like GOMI, just because. It's shameful, but it's a guilty pleasure, and there are always tidbits to talk about and learn from. Plus, with a blogging friend, there's always an extra eye out for your name on those troll sites.

7. A blogging friend is a real friend.
Someone you look out for, give advice to, keep in touch with, and check in on. Blogging relationships aren't just for business gain, they can really be meaningful. You may even meet your best friend.

8. You can network together.
If you're lucky enough to live near your Blogging BFF, you can go to PR events with them. Regardless of location, you can work together to make new opportunities and meet new people!

9. They can help with constructive criticism.
Every once in a while I feel like overhauling my layout, coming up with new features, or deciding to change certain things about my blog. My blogging friends have my back at let me know when something is good or something is just not working.

10. They're just rad.
Making friends is always a good thing. As long as you remain honest and genuine with each other, good things are bound to come to both of you. I'm proud to say the friends I've made through blogging are some of the most supportive, kind, and creative people I've had the privilege of knowing!

  1. I really love this! I've only ever met a couple of my blog friends in real life, but it really is a cool experience! So many of the girls I've met online would be so great to have in my daily offline life.

  2. Aw, this made me feel lonely. LOL. I do have a few blogger friends but it seems like they come and go (along with their blogs) Wish it wasn't that way.

  3. I still have not met any of my blogging friends in real life but I really want to!

  4. This is awesome! I don't have any real life friends who blog. Maybe one day I will!

  5. Haha, love it! So agree, blogging friends are a supportive community and they understand what you mean when you say working from home is lonely. :)

  6. Blogging friends are the best! I'd really love to meet more of them IRL!

  7. I always feel so pressure to take a picture quickly when Im with friends who don't know I blog. Instead of explaining why my IG feeds NEEDS to be perfect I just suck it up and hope I get a good shot.

  8. Nice post! I can relate to #1 so much with my family - they're a bit rushy when I'm trying to take the right photo for instagram or blog.

  9. I love making blogger friends. It leads to so many interesting opportunities for collaboration and inspiration. I've got "itchy feet" though, and it's always sad to leave behind certain blog buddies when I move beyond my original niche.

  10. I think this is a great post. I'm new to blogging and I can't wait until I meet wonderful blogging pals.

  11. This has made to pull my bffs to blogging world. I would love to have all this fun with them.

  12. Great post! Am a newbie into blogging and lookin forward to make grt frnds in blogging word thanks for sharing!

  13. Love this! This puts into words what so many of us feel about our online bffs.

  14. I so feel everything you just wrote, which is making me wish I had closer connections with other bloggers. My friends and family know I blog, and are supportive of it, but don't exactly share my passion. It'd be so nice to chat with someone else who nerds out over Google Analytics and makeup launches or whatever else a fellow beauty blogger would appreciate. It's awesome that you've made so many friends in your blogging adventures. I'm sure they're all very lucky to have you in their lives!

  15. Love this post! PS Olivia Macaron is my favorite!! xo

  16. Great post. We are newbies and so far are loving how supportive the blogging world is!!

  17. I love this! Having a blogging bff is so important and the longer I spend in the blogging world, the more I can see that. Unfortunately, as I'm so super shy, I have a really hard time making friends in the first place, let alone blogger "bffs." I think I'm going to set this as a goal for my blog for the summer. Meet someone, befriend them, and blog with them. Goal, set, match!

  18. Since starting to blog not too long ago I've discovered that the blogging community is such an amazing community! I want a blogging BFF but I'm socially awkward at times, so it's difficult for me to reach out, haha! Hopefully I'll overcome that soon and get myself a bestie :)

  19. I totally agree! My bestie is a blogger and we trade photos and she took my photos to another level while I taught her how to put herself out there for brands! Its been such an awesome friendship, other blogger friends just GET IT, they share resources and its just a better relationship! Thanks for sharing xo C

  20. Oh I adore this!! I so need some good bloggy friends. <3
